3.9 Site specific monitoring

Main objective

For each of the storage sites a monitoring plan has to be developed or in case already available by the operator (as is the case for Barendrecht and K12-B), evaluated by the CATO-2 project.

This WP aims at creating an advisory group of researchers, that can support the different operators in developing or evaluating monitoring plans.

Background

Injection of CO2 in the K12-B gas field has been monitored extensively over the last 4 years. Additional monitoring is necessary to improve our understanding of the reservoir. Furthermore the injection wells are extremely suitable after 4 years of CO2 exposure to investigate any possible degradation in the casing or the cement.

Though the more detailed monitoring programmes are not available yet and are actually part of the CATO-2 programme itself, a short discussion on each site will follow to provide a feeling for the types of monitoring envisaged.
