2.1 TransportMain objectives
For pipeline transport detailed assessments (including lab tests and modelling work) of the design conditions, parameters and constraints will be made. Special attention will be given to the gas quality and its implication for the whole network. Bulk transport of CO2 can also be done by ships. Integration of ships into the transport infrastructure, specially in the short term, may considerably enhance the flexibility of the system. It will increase the likelihood that also smaller and/or remote sources and sinks can be part of the CCS system, improving the use of available storage space. This task will address the technical implications for the integration of ships into the infrastructure system. It will also investigate the possibilities and constrains to temporarily store CO2.
Special attention is paid to the transport of CO2 during the transition period. This includes pipelines and production facilities such as the (re)use of existing pipelines and gas platforms for CO2 injection.
All aspects considered, an estimation of costs involved in setting standards or requirements at different levels is essential, as the final selection of standards will be the results of an economical analysis of the entire CCS chain (WP 2.2 and 2,.4). The work package works in cooperation with WP 4.4 risk management of CO2 transport.
