ChemelotAt the Chemelot site in Limburg, CO2 is available that possibly can be injected in a chalk-sandstone layer below coal layers. Chemelot offers an ideal site for application of this new technology at the plant in Geleen-Sittard where Orascom (former DSM Agro) operates two ammonia factories. During the ammonia production process, very pure CO2 is released. This CO2 is used partly in other chemical production processes and partly delivered to the soft drink industry. The excess amount of pure CO2 can be stored undergrond: the location of the site is just above the subsurface layers considered to be suitable for storing the CO2.
