NUON MAGNUM

Energy supplier NUON is preparing for the Magnum project in Eemshaven. Magnum is a 1200 MW multi-fuel (coal, biomass, natural gas) power plant based on coal gasification technology. Pre-combustion CO2 capture is planned to be integrated from the start with the objective to reduce the specific CO2 emission from coal to that of a state-of-the-art natural gas-fired power plant NUON's UKR project CO2 Catch-up is directly connected to Magnum.

A successful test in the Buggenum pilot plant will give NUON enough confidence for a scale-up to Magnum scale. Important R&D interests for the Eemshaven location are CCS chain integration (transport and storage) and public acceptance.
