Northern Netherlands

Regional government, industries and science centres in the Northern Netherlands

have joint forces. They are working hard to develop plans about starting up actions for

the realisation of carbon capture, transport, storage and recycling. Representatives of the Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe provinces, Groningen University, Energy Valley, NAM, Nuon, RWE, Akzo Nobel, Gasunie, SEQ, NOM and CO2ANN have an action plan for CCS demonstration on a large scale. They aim at storing more than 2.5 to 12.5 megatons CO2, planning an initial phase (2010-2015), an implementation phase (2015-2020) and a market driven phase (>2020). Both RWE and NUON start large scale capture projects.
